Thermo Fisher Signs Comarketing, Research Agreements for Mass Spec Applications

Thermo Fisher Scientific on Monday announced two comarketing agreements and a research collaboration involving its mass spectrometry, sample preparation, and analysis software technologies.

Under a comarketing agreement with Berkeley, California-based Newomics, the companies will combine Thermo Fisher's LC-MS systems with the Newomics Microflow-nanospray Electrospray Ionization, or MnESI, source to analyze bioorganic complexes with high sensitivity and throughput while maintaining their native state. This could have applications for targeted peptide quantification and for the analysis of intact native and denatured proteins. The deal follows a 2019 comarketing agreement between the firms.

Thermo Fisher also signed an agreement with Advanced Electrophoresis Solutions, based in Ontario, Canada, under which the firms will jointly promote Thermo Fisher's expertise in mass spectrometry for biopharma and proteomics applications and AES' whole-column imaging detection capillary electrophoresis systems for protein separation, quantification, and characterization.

Separately, Thermo Fisher has teamed up with researchers at the University of Sheffield in the UK to develop workflows for the characterization and monitoring of complex oligonucleotide and mRNA products. The collaboration will bring together the university's research expertise in this area with Thermo Fisher's magnetic bead technology for sample preparation, liquid chromatography technology, mass spectrometers, and software.
