Molecular pathology firm Xyall and digital pathology firm Indica Labs said Monday that they have inked a global partnership to combine their technologies to deliver a fully digital and automated workflow for tissue macro dissection for molecular diagnostic testing.
The deal pairs Netherlands-based Xyall's fully automated Tissector tumor tissue selection system with New Mexico-based Indica Labs' CE-IVD-marked Halo AP anatomic pathology image management and workflow software. The firms said tissue dissection is often a manual, labor-intensive process with limited precision and high sensitivity to errors. Combining the two firms' products will deliver increased throughput and accuracy at lower cost, they added.
Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The firms said Tissector High Throughput and Halo AP systems are already used together in large commercial laboratories, and Xyall makes the Tissector Table Top system for use in lower volume molecular labs. Slide annotations from Halo AP are automatically simplified and transferred to the Tissector system for tumor tissue dissection. Indica is planning future deliveries of tumor detection AI and cell quantification algorithms through Halo AP's workflow-based interface.
Xyall CEO Guido du Pree said in a statement that the molecular diagnostics used to inform treatment decisions need consistently high sample quality and efficiencies that are difficult to achieve, and clinicians and lab scientists have called for faster and more accurate tissue dissection in precision oncology.
"By combining Xyall's technology with the advanced image management solutions of Indica Labs, we can provide optimal quality and efficiency across the whole workflow of tissue dissection for molecular pathology testing," he said.
Indica Labs Chief Operating Officer Eric Runde added that it's important for clinicians to obtain the most tumor tissue possible as every cell contains vital information. Combining the companies' technologies lets users document and track each step of dissection, he said.
