Maccura Biotechnology's two monkeypox virus nucleic acid detection reagents obtained CE certification

Industry news | 30 May, 2022 | CACLP

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease that was first identified in monkeys in 1958. Although it is named monkeypox virus, its primary host is rodents such as mice and squirrels, and its opportunistic host is primates, humans. In an area with good disease prevention systems, monkeypox is generally not a major epidemic. Monkeypox is a DNA virus and belongs to the same family of Poxviridae as smallpox. The gene sequences of the two are highly similar, resulting in many similar biological characteristics and pathogenicity of the two.

The clinical symptoms of monkeypox patients are similar to those of smallpox, including fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, itching, and fatigue. 1-3 days after the fever, acne-like herpes appear on the skin and spread from the face to other parts of the body. Swollen lymph nodes are a distinguishing feature from other diseases (chickenpox, measles, smallpox). The course of most monkeypox patients is self-limiting, and a few can develop severe disease, multiple organ failure, and even death.

The clinical symptoms of monkeypox are similar to those of smallpox, and it is difficult to identify it by clinical manifestations, especially in people who have been vaccinated against smallpox and then infected with monkeypox virus, and their symptoms are mild or even no obvious symptoms. At present, the commonly used specific detection method for monkeypox is the PCR method for detecting viral nucleic acid, which has high sensitivity and specificity. Fluorescent PCR is the main method for detecting monkeypox virus at home and abroad.

Maccura Biotechnology monkeypox virus nucleic acid detection kit (fluorescent PCR method) and monkeypox virus nucleic acid detection kit (digital PCR method) is suitable for nasal swabs, throat swabs, blood and skin lesion exudates and other samples, with high sensitivity. It can quickly and accurately detect virus-specific gene fragments and realize early diagnosis of monkeypox virus infection. The monkeypox virus nucleic acid detection kit (digital PCR method) can further detect low-concentration samples, and has no cross with smallpox virus, vaccinia virus, vaccinia virus, etc., which greatly facilitates the accurate diagnosis and prevention of monkeypox virus.
