Point-of-Care drugs of abuse testing is estimated at $576 million and is anticipated to grow at 2.4% over the next five years. It is anticipated that drug testing technology will become increasingly sensitive and easier to use, leading to more innovative and effective testing for drugs of abuse. The move from urine testing to oral fluid testing reduces privacy concerns and minimizes some of the issues surrounding urine testing. In future, drug testing practices in the future must include identification of a larger number of drugs, including newly emerging drugs of abuse, and testing must become less expensive and more resistant to adulteration.
