On April 1, UK life science tools company LGC said that it has acquired Rapid Genomics, a next-generation sequencing genotyping company based in Gainesville, Florida.
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
According to LGC, Rapid Genomics provides mid- to high-density NGS kits and services for genotyping in the agrigenomics market. Its Flex-Seq Ex-L technology allows "high-throughput, cost-effective DNA analysis" in plants, livestock, and aquaculture genetics, enabling the development of more productive and resilient plants and animals, as well as food safety and animal health applications through the identification and screening of pathogens, LGC said.
"This acquisition will enable future growth and development of our NGS high-throughput offerings in the agrigenomics space. Rapid Genomics is an excellent complement to our existing NGS and PCR genomics capabilities and we look forward to bringing the combined offering to our customers," said LGC Biosearch Technologies Managing Director Mark Dearden in a statement.
Founded in 2011, Rapid Genomics currently has 30 employees, according to LGC.
